In 2021, the NIBS Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Leadership Award was inaugurated into the built environment awards, which are presented during NIBS’ Building Innovation conference.
Every year, the National Institute of Building Sciences bestows the Innovator Award to a corporation, organization, individual, or project within the built environment. The award is given for groundbreaking advances and significant technological contributions to the built environment and for exemplary leadership in advancing innovation in the building industry.
Each year, NIBS honors a building industry icon with the Mortimer M. Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award. Established in 2011 and named after the first member of NIBS, this award is given to an association, corporation, or individual who has demonstrated a lifetime of dedication to the mission and goals of NIBS. It is NIBS’ highest honor and award.
During Building Innovation 2022, the Mortimer M. Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Philip Schneider, retired.
The National Institute of Building Sciences has opened a call for abstracts for Building Innovation.
BI2023 will take place September 5-7, at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC.

The National Institute of Building Sciences wrapped its second day of educational sessions on September 28.
The day began with a breakfast keynote by David Maurstad, Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Insurance and Mitigation and Senior Executive of the National Flood Insurance Program with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
NIBS this morning recognized built environment leaders, during an awards ceremony at Building Innovation 2022.
